Dozens of people buried alive at a gold mine in Africa. The tragedy occurred near the border between the Central African Republic and Cameroon. At least 100 people are feared dead after an artisanal gold mine collapsed in Zamboye, on the Central African Republic–Cameroon border, on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 18). The toll is provisional and rising: rescuers recovered about 30 bodies in the first hours, and local officials and a mining-association source cited by Reuters and AFP now put it above 100 — one local mayor cited 107. No final count is confirmed; searches continue.
