On the night of Sunday, April 19, 2026, an armed attack shook Guayaquil, leaving six people dead and at least one injured. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Gómez Rendón and Guerrero Valenzuela streets, in the city’s south-central area.

According to preliminary reports, several armed individuals traveling in a vehicle opened fire with high-powered weapons on a group of people gathered in the area, some of whom were inside a parked car consuming alcohol. The victims attempted to flee but were chased by the attackers.

Three people died at the scene, while the other victims succumbed to their injuries while being transported to medical facilities. During the shooting, a taxi driver passing through the area was injured as a bystander. This attack adds to a series of violent incidents reported in the city over the same weekend.
