On February 6, 2025, at about 5:11 p.m., NOPD officers spotted a white Kia Optima at the foot of the North Claiborne Avenue bridge at its intersection with Poland Avenue. The vehicle was known to have been stolen during an armed robbery earlier that day in the 300 block of North Prieur Street.

The officers exited their vehicles and approached the Optima on foot and provided verbal commands for the occupants of the vehicle to exit. At that time, the driver of the Optima attempted to drive away, striking other vehicles as it exited the bridge by going over the curb. In doing so, the Optima nearly hit one officer and then collided with a second officer as the Optima fled the scene. That officer went to a hospital with minor injuries. Three officers fired gunshots at the car. The NOPD said 11 shots were fired.

As a result of this investigation, 20-year-old Juquan Dominick was developed as a suspect and positively identified by the victim of the armed robbery incident. Dominick was observed in video surveillance after the vehicles were stolen and before the encounter with police utilizing both vehicles.

An arrest warrant for Juquan Dominick was then secured by the investigators on multiple charges. Dominick was located and arrested on February 12, 2025. Pertaining to the incident at Poland and North Claiborne, an arrest warrant was obtained for Dominick for two counts of attempted murder, for which he was subsequently booked.
