Indore: An auto rickshaw driver was killed by an elephant in Indore when he attempted to feed it jaggery on Saturday evening. The incident was caught on camera.

The victim, 49-year-old Vijay alias Laxman Rao Holkar, was rushed to district hospital immediately after the attack and later shifted to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late at night. He leaves behind wife and son.

According to ACP Shivendu Joshi, the elephant had been brought from Ujjain by its mahout for a ceremonial function in Indore. On Saturday, the mahout was walking the animal through the locality while collecting alms when Holkar stopped his auto rickshaw near Raj Nagar police outpost and began feeding jaggery to the elephant.

Without warning, the elephant turned aggressive — it lifted Holkar with its trunk, hurled him to the ground, and then stepped on him, inflicting severe injuries.
