New Delhi – A 67-year-old man died and two others were injured after construction materials fell from the rooftop of a building in the Chander Vihar area during a dust storm on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred around 6:30 PM in the PS Madhu Vihar area, during a sudden dust storm that swept across Delhi-NCR, drastically reducing visibility and unleashing strong winds.

According to police, the debris fell from the roof of a five-story building where construction was underway to add a sixth floor. The materials crashed onto a nearby street, fatally striking Chander Pal (67), who was later declared dead at LBS Hospital.

Two others were injured in the incident. One of them, Rajbir (38), a nurse at GTB Hospital, is currently receiving treatment. While eyewitnesses claimed more people were injured, police have not yet confirmed any additional victims.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a call about the incident at 7:27 PM and dispatched three teams to the scene.

“We have secured the site. Construction was ongoing to build a sixth floor on a five-story building. Injured individuals have been sent to the hospital. Legal proceedings are underway,” said a senior police officer.

The DFS reportedly received 23 calls related to falling trees and structures by 10 PM, as the intense storm battered the capital. The Meteorological Department issued an "orange alert" warning of worsening conditions in the coming hours for Delhi-NCR.
