A major natural gas leak with a fire in Grand Prairie led firefighters on Saturday to evacuate nearby businesses and residences, the city’s fire department said. No injuries were reported.

The gas leak occurred at Mayfield Road and State Highway 360. The fire department evacuated people nearby around noon, and about 4:30 p.m., after about 4 1/2 hours, reduced the size of the evacuation area.

The new evacuations involved houses on Atrium Drive, between State Highway 360 and Parham Drive; single-family houses on Parham Drive south of Mayfield Road; houses on Carnation Court; and business and residences north of Atrium Drive, south of Red Hawk Drive, east of State Highway 360 and west of Parham Drive.

Grand Prairie Emergency Management about 12:15 p.m. had asked people in residences and businesses between Mayfield Road and Interstate 20 and between State Highway 360 and Great Southwest Parkway to evacuate.

About 100 to 150 people were evacuated, officials said.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, the Grand Prairie Fire Department tweeted that gas company Atmos Energy had stopped the gas flow and the fire was out. All residents who had been evacuated were then allowed to return home.

The fire department and Atmos were checking buildings to see if there were any elevated gas levels. Oncor was in the process of restoring electric power to the area
