Mixco Municipal Prosecutor's Office confirms to Publinews that it is investigating an armed incident that occurred on the night of January 13, 2026, in the Nueva Monserrat neighborhood, Zone 3 of Mixco, in which a couple was killed by gunfire.

According to preliminary investigations by the Public Ministry (MP), the victims (a 42-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman) were with other as-yet-unidentified individuals celebrating a birthday inside a cevichería (seafood restaurant) located at 3rd Street and 14th Avenue, property 13-10, in the aforementioned neighborhood.

The prosecutor's report indicates that around 10:00 p.m., the group exited the establishment onto the street, where an argument ensued. At that moment, an individual fired shots directly at the couple, killing them.

Following the attack, the alleged perpetrator boarded an SUV and fled the scene, accompanied by other individuals who were also carrying firearms, according to evidence documented at the scene.

Investigators located ballistic evidence at the crime scene, as well as alcohol containers and gift bags, reinforcing the hypothesis that a celebration had taken place prior to the attack.

Additionally, two vials (colmillos) containing a suspected drug, preliminarily identified as cocaine, were found among the belongings of one of the victims.

A report from the National Civil Police (PNC), obtained by Publinews, detailed that the following items were seized as evidence:

One vial-type container and a capsule, both possibly containing cocaine.

21 shell casings.

A black Hyundai automobile, license plate P-677JYX, owned by the deceased male.

The PNC also confirmed the identities of both victims: Derik Federico López, 41, and Katherin Esperanza Cajabón Quezada, 24. Quezada was transported alive to a medical center, where she was later pronounced dead.

The MP confirmed that nearby video surveillance cameras captured the incident, and the recordings are being analyzed as part of the investigation.

However, eyewitnesses fled the scene after the attack. Authorities are currently working to locate them to gather statements that will help solve the crime and apprehend those responsible.
