One person was shot and killed by a Greenville County deputy on Tuesday. According to Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, just before 11:30 p.m., Greenville County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a female had been assaulted at the Poinsett View Apartments. At the scene, deputies said they encountered an armed suspect, and one deputy fired their weapon, hitting the suspect at least once. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said Johndy Lading Rodriguez, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrived on scene to investigate the incident, plus the county’s Office of Professional Standards who was there to conduct an internal investigation. The deputy involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave until the internal review is completed. The sheriff’s office said more details will be released, but until then, they are holding off on further comment until they release their Critical Incident Community Briefing video on January 24.
