A man armed with a knife while walking in a road was fatally shot by police in Tustin on Sunday, Jan. 8, authorities said.

Just after 8:30 a.m., officers were called to the area near the Warner and Red Hill avenues intersection about a suspicious person who was holding a large knife, the Tustin Police Department said in a news release. Police were told that the suspect had blood on his hands and clothing.

A man matching the description was holding a knife while walking in traffic lanes on Warner when authorities arrived, Tustin Police Sgt. Colt Kirwan said.

When officers approached the man, he began advancing towards them, knife still in hand, when at least one officer fired shots that struck the suspect, police said.
