On 15 September at Rusike Primary School in Goromonzi, a yet-to-be-identified suspect met a fatal end while allegedly attempting to steal a transformer belonging to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).The individual was electrocuted during the act and, at the time of reporting, his body remained entangled in the transformer cage, a grim testament to the dangers of tampering with high-voltage equipment.Dr. George Manyaya, ZESA’s stakeholder relations and communications manager, confirmed the incident, stressing the risks associated with such illicit activities.“An electrocuted vandal is still hanging in a transformer cage in Goromonzi,” he stated, underscoring the severity of the situation.ZESA personnel are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, as well as attempt to identify the deceased and notify his family.Manyaya’s statement points out the potential hazards involved in vandalism against electrical infrastructure.
