Milwaukee police say the suspect, Keasean Ellis-Brown, tried to steal a car with three children inside outside the restaurant. He was unsuccessful and was leaving the area, but then saw the driver of that car go inside the Shake Shack.Keasean Ellis-Brown was wearing a black hoodie and a mask when he attacked the driver. She had picked up a cellphone left behind by Ellis-Brown and two other would-be carjackers.Almost immediately, off-duty MPD Detective Andy Wilkiewicz ran in from the back of the line.Wilkiewicz and Ellis-Brown scuffled, and Ellis-Brown pulled out a gun. Though it can't be heard, he shot Wilkiewicz.Despite being wounded, the video showed Wilkiewicz drew his gun and fired one shot through the glass window as Ellis-Brown runs out of frame.Wilkiewicz survived the shooting.Keasean Ellis-Brown spent two months on the run. On March 15, 2022, MPD tracked him to a Milwaukee home.New video also shows officers' efforts to get him to surrender. He holed up in the house for hours. And after a four hour standoff, he was taken into custody.This summer Ellis-Brown was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for the shooting.Detective Wilkiewicz is still recovering
