SAMANÁ.– A citizen identified as Víctor Payano Fermín, resident of the Las Pascualas community, lost his life during the early hours of this Monday after being involved in a traffic accident registered in the town of La Chorrera, in this province of the Northeast Region.

According to preliminary information and testimonies gathered in the area, Payano Fermín was walking and trying to cross the main road when he was hit by a two-wheeled vehicle.

Officers from the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) and agents of the National Police arrived at the scene to begin the corresponding investigations and proceed with the identification of the motorcycle driver, as well as the collection of evidence.

Traffic authorities and the Public Prosecutor's Office have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and establish legal responsibility. The death of Payano Fermín has caused deep sorrow among residents of Las Pascualas and surrounding areas of Samaná.
