Bergen-Belsen : Lower Saxony, Germany.

The camp was founded in the first half of the 1940s as a prisoner-of-war camp.

In December 1944, Bergen-Belsen's transformation into a concentration camp was completed.

Around 50,000 concentration camp prisoners and some 20,000 prisoners of war died at Bergen-Belsen - mainly Soviet, French and Belgian.

The soldiers who liberated the camp found thousands of bodies that had not been cremated in time.
