In the always quiet Nieuw-Beijerland, a place with a Reformed community, there was unusual but traditional unrest during New Year's night. Two police officers were injured after rioters shot off shell fireworks with such powerful explosions that a projectile flew over a large distance (110 meters). The fireworks exploded near the line of the Mobile Unit (ME), causing several officers on duty to suffer injuries to their legs and bodies, as well as damage to their hearing. A large-scale manhunt was launched, resulting in the arrest of four young rioters, all between 19 and 20 years old. They are currently awaiting their sentence at the police station under the supervision of uncle officer.
