Thousands of worshippers showed their devotion during the Thaipusam Festival in Chennai, Thursday, by having their bodies pierced and walking over hot coals, among other acts of worship.

The faithful had long skewers pierced through their flesh whilst in a meditative state. Hundreds of other pilgrims dressed in yellow and carried offerings of milk pots. Others walked on hot coals.
