This happened in 2011 at the Reno Air Races. Pilot Jimmy Leeward's plane suddenly pulled up after part of the trim tab broke off of the tail. The FAA report states that the plane pulled 17 G's in that climb(a 200 pound man would weigh 3,400 pounds at 17 G's) most likely killing him before the crash, which also killed 10 spectators in front of the grandstands in the VIP section.
