Upper Darby police have released dramatic new video showing a man overdosing on heroin while riding a SEPTA bus.

The video also shows police officers reviving him.

Surveillance video released on Tuesday shows 25-year-old Michael Meeny shooting heroin into his arm.

He then becomes unconscious, and falls out of his seat onto the floor.

Chitwood says passengers initially tried to help, but it took police injecting Meany with Narcan - a drug that helps reverse heroin overdoses - to revive him.

With a little help, he then stands up and manages to walk off the bus.

"When someone has this bad of an addiction, to actually shoot up on a crowded bus at 1:00 in afternoon, is unbelievable," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. "You can really see how sick these individuals are."

That day, Meeny was taken to the hospital and then released.

However, officers got a warrant for his arrest after allegedly finding four bags of heroin in his pockets.

He was arrested Tuesday morning at his home in Middletown.

Chitwood says this incident shows what his officers encounter on a daily basis, and that there needs to be more facilities to treat people struggling with addiction.
