Car theft continues to be a major problem in Memphis.

According to the City of Memphis Data Hub, so far in 2023, there have been more than 4,700 reports of vehicle theft.

That's a car stolen every 35 minutes.

The statistics have some people taking drastic measures to protect their property.

A video of a woman on the hood of a car pleading for the man inside to not drive off is circulating on social media.

The cell phone video captures the moment a man tries to steal a woman's car at an Exxon gas station.

In it, you can hear the woman pleading for the driver to not take her car as he tries to drive off with her on the hood.

The thief appears to have a change of heart, gets out of the car and runs off.
