Accidental close-range gunshot wound from AK-47 assault rifle, with catastrophic injury of the 4th metacarpal bone. The soft tissue stellate flaps around the exit wound are illustrative of the explosive character of the temporary cavity formed, despite the short wound channel. The distance of the shot suggests a possible high yaw angle of the bullet at impact (due to the destabilizing effect of the propellant gases), which can lead to early tumbling and cavitation, as apparently in this case.
