In 2018, Sophia Flörsch crashed during the Macau Grand Prix while competing in Formula 3 at a speed over 170 mph. After losing control in a chain reaction involving other cars, her vehicle was launched into the air, over barriers, and slammed into a photographer's bunker. The high-speed impact fractured her spine and also injured several trackside marshals and photographers. Miraculously, Sophia remained conscious and underwent surgery, later making a full recovery and returning to racing. The crash led to immediate track safety upgrades and is widely remembered as one of the most dramatic incidents in recent F3 history.
