Shockingly, it has come to light that the perpetrator held a valid gun permit. The police revealed that in 2022, the man had made self-harm threats, leading to the temporary suspension of his permit. However, it was later returned to him by the authorities.The tragic event took place in downtown Poznan on Sunday afternoon. The 29-year-old resident of the city fired multiple shots at a 30-year-old man using a handgun before taking his own life. Both individuals lost their lives in the incident, which unfolded in the presence of the victim’s fiancée, the former girlfriend of the assailant. On Monday, the police stated that the most likely motive behind the shooting was a disillusioned love affair.Authorities Temporarily Revoked Permit in 2022 After Self-Harm Threat, but Later Returned itAccording to police spokesperson Andrzej Borowiak, the 29-year-old man obtained a license and permit for firearms for sporting and collecting purposes in 2018. He had applied for five firearms for sports and ten firearms for collecting. Borowiak clarified that the man met all the requirements, including completing the necessary training, passing the exam, and presenting a medical opinion. Based on these qualifications, the man received the license and permits.Shortly after acquiring the permits, the man purchased a handgun for sporting purposes and a rifle for collecting. It is known that he was a member of a shooting club. However, in early 2022, during a conversation with his former girlfriend, he made a concerning statement about self-harm, which occurred after their breakup. The woman immediately reported his words to the police in Poznan. Officers located the man and took him to the hospital for observation, where he was held for several days.Upon his release from the hospital, the police confiscated the two firearms he possessed. The Administrative Proceedings Department of the Poznan police issued a decision to revoke his permit. However, the man decided to appeal the decision. He presented a new medical opinion stating that he had no contraindications. The department challenged the medical decision and referred the man to a specialist clinic for independent evaluation. After undergoing the examinations, he obtained yet another favorable opinion, which worked in his favor.
