A 28-year-old man died this Wednesday after suffering a traffic accident while traveling along the Cabrera–Río San Juan highway.

The victim was identified as Odalis Peralta Polanco, a resident of the Abreu community in the municipality of Cabrera.

According to preliminary reports, Peralta Polanco was traveling on a motorcycle accompanied by a minor.

The teenager was injured and transported to the Dr. Virgilio García Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.

Investigations indicate that the young man allegedly lost control of the vehicle after being sideswiped by an as-yet unidentified car, which caused the fatal accident.

Agents from the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) responded to the scene. Units from the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1 and members of the National Police also arrived to process the scene.

Authorities have expressed concern over the increase in traffic accidents in the province, which have left several people dead and others with permanent injuries so far this year.
