A 24-year-veteran of the New York City Emergency Medical Service was fatally stabbed in a random attack in Queens on Thursday, the authorities said.The paramedic, Lieutenant Alison Russo-Elling, 61, was walking to E.M.S. Station 49 in Astoria on Thursday when the assailant, a 34-year-old man whom the police declined to name, approached and stabbed her repeatedly just before 2:30 p.m., James Essig, the chief of detectives for the New York Police Department, said at a news conference.Image
