Accident at 0:30

On August 22, 2021, there was a shocking accident which sent a man flying in the air and slamming the pavement below an overpass.

It was a sunny day in Bangkok, Thailand. A man Sunthan Ubonrat had pulled over for some reason on the side of the Rama 9 expressway which goes over the Chao Phraya River. Unfortunately for him, this would be his last moment alive.

A black Honda Accord was speeding down the highway and slowly veered towards the shoulder lane. As seen in the dashcam video, the driver never braked, and rear-ended the white Honda City sedan hard. Since the 41-year-old driver of the sedan was standing in front of the car, the impact sent him flying in the air, which led to him falling on the ground below. There was also a passenger who was hit, but fell on the shoulder lane.

The impact was obviously too strong, and the 41-year-old died. The other two injured in the accident are: Chairat Chaowijit (40) and Teerawit Chankovet (32). Teerawit got a head and leg injury, and was sent to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital for treatment.

But why did this accident happen?

Well, police have been investigating, and they believe drugs are involved. After the crash, around 2,000 pills of methamphetamine were found among the wreckage, as well as two small bags of ice (drug) and a handful of cash. Police Superintendent of the Hua Mak Station, Wichai Narong, stated that this incident was an accident, and that there was no kind of police chase taking place during the crash.
