In a harrowing incident in Palmview, KwaZulu-Natal, a 76-year-old man was gravely injured while heroically trying to thwart a robbery on his property.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to multiple distress calls reporting an armed robbery unfolding on Nettlepalm Gardens at around 09:21. Upon arrival, it was revealed that a lone suspect had entered the yard, snatching a cellphone from a 62-year-old woman.

Responding to her pleas for help, the woman’s 19-year-old grandson confronted the robber, only to be stabbed in the leg. Undeterred, the elderly victim’s husband attempted to apprehend the suspect, who, armed with a knife, viciously attacked both the grandfather and his wife. The elderly man suffered two stab wounds to the neck during the struggle.

Paramedics from a private ambulance service promptly stabilized the elderly victim on the scene before rushing him to the hospital. Meanwhile, the grandson received immediate first aid for his leg wound.

Despite an extensive search, law enforcement was unable to apprehend the assailant, who managed to escape over a rear fence. The shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks individuals face when confronting criminals, even in the safety of their own homes.
