The body of a man identified as Antônio was found by residents on Sunday morning . The corpse had been beheaded, but it is believed this was done post-mortem, with Antônio being killed with six gunshots. His eyes had been gouged out.

Residents reported that Antônio had no family in the municipality and had been living alone in the city for approximately two months.

One line of investigation points to a possible connection between the crime and conflicts between criminal factions, a hypothesis that is still being investigated by the Civil Police.
