A person was arrested in a foiled robbery bid at a jewellery shop in Ambegaon Budruk on Thursday evening. The Bharati Vidyapeeth police nabbed Gaurav Vijay Raikar (25) of Wadgaon Dhayari within 24 hours of the incident. Victim Vinodkumar Soni (42) of Ambegaon Budruk had lodged a complaint. The robbery attempt failed when Soni put up stiff resistance. However, he received injuries to his head and hand after Raikar attacked him with a sharp knife. The culprit’s act puzzled the police as his family owns a four-storey building in Wadgaon Dhayari. Some flats in it are rented out.According to the police, Soni owns Vaibhav Laxmi jewellery shop in Ambegaon Budruk. He has been running the shop for over eight years. He was alone in his shop on Thursday evening when Raikar entered on the pretext of purchasing ornaments. He asked Soni to show some pieces of gold chain and a gold ring. He sat at the shop saying his mother would arrive and the purchase would be completed.Confirming that there was no one around, he suddenly assaulted Soni with the weapon and tried to snatch some ornaments. However, Raikar managed to escape on his motorbike. The police hecked CCTV footage at the shop and from the surrounding area. His address was traced from the registration number of his vehicle.
