The Austin Police Department has released video footage showing the arrest of a man who died in police custody last month after causing a disturbance at a convenience store.The released materials include body-worn camera footage, a private citizen's dashboard camera video, police radio traffic, and 911 audio calls related to the Monday, June 17, incident involving Jermaine Joseph Sims, 35.According to APD, the two officers involved in the incident were Officer Brandon Langer and Officer David Lewis, both with one year of service in the department. The footage shows the officers' actions during the arrest, though one officer's body camera became detached during the incident.The timeline of events, as detailed in the video and audio materials, begins at approximately 4:02 p.m. with multiple 911 calls reporting Sims acting erratically at a Circle K store located at the I-35 frontage road and Slaughter Lane intersection in southeast Austin.At 4:05 p.m., Sims allegedly stole a pickup truck and crashed into multiple vehicles. Officers arrived at 4:09 p.m. and took Sims into custody a minute later.Austin-Travis County EMS transported Sims to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 6:04 p.m.
