Aiken County Solicitor Strom Thurmond Jr. has released the dash-cam video of Aiken Officers Scotty Richardson and Travis Griffin being shot in 2011 by gang member Stephon Carter. Richardson died and Griffin survived from a bullet-proof vest. On Feb. 2, 2015, Thrumond halted Carter's death penalty trial and allowed him to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence without the possibility of parole plus 30 years.
