Police have taken interest and say they will investigate a video in which a woman has been beaten for allegedly stealing a 5-liter container of cooking oil.

In a three-minute, 15-second video that has gone viral on social media, the woman who confessed to stealing cooking oil citing the high cost of living, coupled with being a widow, however begged with the uncompromising workers that she had been starving, hence her decision to conceal the cooking oil.

The lady unbeknownst to her, went into the shop without realising that CCTV cameras were installed and was caught on camera stealing the cooking oil.

The woman who admitted that she has been struggling to meet her children’s demands and needs because she has no one to help her, made an appeal to well-wishers to join her and her children in this difficult situation.

Social media is awash with reactions to the development, with others justifying the actions of the shop employees, while others saying despite the prevailing hardships, the woman should not have resorted to stealing.

Others are sympathising with the woman, justifying that despite her decision to steal, she does not deserve to be humiliated in front of cameras, but employees should have allowed the law to take its course.
