A worker identified as Antônio Paulo Rodrigues de Souza, 40, known as Antônio Suricate, died on Sunday morning (23) after a crane overturned during the assembly of the Christmas tree in Largo São Sebastião, in front of the Amazonas Theater, in the Center of Manaus . Another worker, Henes Libório Ramos, 47, was injured and remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The crane was operated by Antônio Benjamin, who was hired by the company for only one day's work. He was on sick leave from the INSS (Brazilian Social Security Institute), receiving disability benefits, and was working dressed as Santa Claus , without any personal protective equipment. Benjamin was arrested shortly after the accident .
