A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally stabbed in Small Heath this afternoon.

Officers were called just after 1.15pm to Whitmore Road at the junction of Coventry Road after a man in his 40s sustained knife wounds.

Despite the best effort of paramedics, he was declared deceased at the scene.

A 46-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

At this stage we are not looking for anyone else.

We understand this has caused worry in the community, and we know there were a lot of people in the around at the time and saw what happened.

There will be extra officers in the area to provide reassurance so please speak to them if you have any concerns.

We would ask people not to share any footage as this could impact on the investigation.
