At approximately 12:30am Sunday morning Officer McMahon responded to a request for assistance from North Caldwell PD regarding a stolen vehicle. The tracking system indicated the vehicle was stationary on the border of Verona. Officer McMahon (unmarked patrol car) located the vehicle parked on Hilltop Dr. (N. Caldwell) and requested a backup unit. As Officers McMahon, Pami, and Daly walked towards the suspect vehicle, the driver attempted to flee the complex by driving off-road striking multiple parked cars, eventually going over a retaining wall and falling 21 feet. The driver managed to free himself from the wreckage and ran on foot before being apprehended by Officer Maguire and Officers from surrounding agencies. A female passenger was located near the vehicle by Officer Pami. OIC Sgt. Huber responded to the scene, and after further investigation, both individuals were turned over to the custody of the North Caldwell Police Department.
