The 19-year-old was crossing the road in Plaistow when an out-of-control Nissan Juke came speeding down Barking Road yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to help with the first crews arriving within two minutes, but sadly the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 45-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody today.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the tragedy to come forward.
