The incident occurred in front of the Two Keys Tavern on College Park Road at approximately 11:30 p.m. An officer observed several females fighting at the front door and attempted to stop the altercation, according to the GCPD.

Police say the officer was able to detain one female on the ground, but several other females attempted to free the woman by attacking the officer. The officer was punched and kicked while he was on the ground.

According to the GCPD, the women then attempted to escape. The officer deployed his taser but suffered a medical emergency and collapsed. Additional officers arrived and the officer who was attacked was treated at a local hospital before being released.

On Monday, Chief LJ Roscoe with the Goose Creek Police Department provided an update on the officer's condition.

"After being treated at the hospital and receiving follow-up medical care today, it was determined that the medical condition that caused him to collapse was blood pressure related," Roscoe said in a statement. "Due to the fact that the officer was in a position on his knees for an extensive period of time, it restricted the blood flow to his lower extremities. This occurred at a time when his system was heightened with adrenaline due to the incident itself. When he jumped up suddenly, and the blood flow was restored to the lower extremities, it caused his blood pressure to plummet, causing him to collapse. This is 100% consistent with what is seen on our dash camera."
