A federal lawsuit was filed against a former Pueblo police officer and the police chief after the officer tased an unarmed woman during an arrest in February 2022. The lawsuit alleges that the officer, Bennie Villanueva, shocked Gonzales with a taser in her back while she was complying with police orders. The lawsuit also claims that the officer should not be able to maintain his police officer certification.
