Borghat, Raigad District, India: collision with a container-laden trailer on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, near Khopoli, at around 5:00pm on Thursday. The car was being driven by Jokim Chettiar (36), a resident of Vasai. His wife Luiza (35) and son Jejial were with him in the car, returning to their home in Naigaon. Assistant inspector Satish Aswar of Khopoli police station said that the trailer collided with the car at a downward slope, causing the smaller vehicle to crash into a truck. When the small car was hit from behind, it lurched forward towards another truck, driving slower. Since the initial truck had too much momentum to stop, it caused the small car to be sandwiched and spun outwards where it then caught fire. The initial truck kept rolling forward, crashing into another truck. This is the truck that recorded the moments of the crash as it happened. The police booked Nikam, the truck driver, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Motor Vehicles Act.“The Pune-Mumbai lane of the expressway saw traffic jam following that accident. We later removed the three vehicles from the road using a crane, and the traffic flow was normal after that,” the officer said.In the end, all three occupants of the car were thrown out from impact and killed. The container driver, Ramesh Nikam, was admitted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe for his grievous injuries.
