CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Body-worn camera footage of a former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer charged with embezzlement after allegedly stealing from an arrestee was released Tuesday.Henry Chapman was arrested March 14 and charged with one count of embezzlement. The charge stems from a traffic stop at 4:19 p.m.The driver of the car that was pulled over was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Chapman was responsible for taking him to the University City Division Patrol Office to then be transferred into the custody of another officer who would then take him to the jail.At the time of his arrest, the man had about $7,900 on him. While waiting for that transfer, the man arrested accused Chapman of stealing his money.A sergeant went to investigate. He then opened up the door and blocked the pocket on the driver’s side.During a search of Chapman’s patrol car, about $900 of that was found in the driver’s side door.Arrest records say Chapman later admitted that he took the money but said he wasn’t going to steal it.Chapman was arrested and placed on unpaid leave. He resigned the next day. He had been with the department since 2009.
