A serious traffic accident was reported around 10:30 PM this Wednesday 3.18.26 at Km 58 of the BR-232 highway, in the municipality of Pombos, located in the Southern Zona da Mata region of Pernambuco. The head-on collision between a RAM 4x4 pickup truck and a Fiat Palio resulted in the deaths of a couple and left one woman injured.

According to information from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and witness accounts, the driver of the pickup truck was traveling at high speed in the oncoming lane of the highway when she collided head-on with the passenger car. The impact was violent and completely destroyed the Fiat Palio, leaving the victims trapped inside the wreckage.

The couple was identified as Rochelle Lohana Pedrosa Ferreira, 28, a native of Caruaru, and José Ricardo Gomes da Silva, 31, a native of Sairé. Preliminary information indicates that they resided in the municipality of Bezerros. Both succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was injured and received treatment from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU). She was rescued and transported to João Murilo Hospital in Vitória de Santo Antão. Her medical condition has not been disclosed.

Fire Department teams worked to extricate the bodies from the wreckage. The Institute of Criminalistics (IC) was on-site to conduct a forensic examination, and the bodies were sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) in Palmares. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The highway had to be partially closed during the rescue operation, but traffic flow has since returned to normal.
