The Stockton Police Department released video footage on Thursday after police shot and killed an ax-wielding man last month.

The nine-minute video is narrated and contains photos, 911 call audio, and body-worn camera footage.

On May 4, officers at 7 a.m. went to the 2000 block of Nevada Street by Anola Lane after getting a report of a man smashing the front door of an occupied home with an ax, police said. By the time they arrived, 25-year-old Moises Andrade had already left.

Two officers determined that Andrade had caused substantial damage to the door, according to police.

Photos released with the video show the damage, while 911 audio includes a caller talking about the attack.

While investigating that incident, police said they learned that Andrade may had been heading to another home to commit a similar attack.

Investigators found out that Andrade was staying at a nearby home along Deep Cliff Way and Spring Hill Drive, between Highway 4 and Houston Avenue.

Police said officers arrived at that second home around 7:37 a.m. As they were approaching the front door on foot, the garage door partially opened, and one of the officers saw Andrade inside.

Video footage shows the officer talking to Andrade in Spanish.

Andrade responds to the officer's request to leave the garage by saying, "What did I do? I didn't do anything."

Police said that during the encounter, Andrade grabbed an ax that was tied to his bike. The video footage shows him retrieving the ax from the bike.

That prompted one officer to draw his gun, and another drew his Taser.

The video footage shows Andrade close the garage door before reopening it again while communicating with the officer, and telling him not to point his service weapon.

After failed de-escalation tactics and commands from the officers, police said Andrade raised his ax "in a threatening manner towards the officers." One officer fired his gun in response.

The video shows Andrade raising the ax before the officer fires his weapon four times.

Following the confrontation, police said officers gave Andrade medical aid until personnel with CenCal and EMS Authority, and the Stockton Fire Department, transported Andrade to a hospital. He later died of his injuries.

No officers were injured, police said. Both officers, who had their body-worn cameras on, were put on paid administrative leave.

Police identified the officer who fired his weapon as Gabriel Sixtos, saying he has been with the department since 2017 and is assigned to the Field Operations Division.
