NYPD cops shot and killed a domestic violence suspect who fired at them on a Brooklyn street Thursday night, police said.

The fatal shooting unfolded after a police sergeant and another cop on patrol heard gunshots ring out while they in the area of West 36th Street and Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island around 10:15 p.m., the NYPD said.

As the two cops raced to the scene, they were approached by two women who told them a man was firing a gun at that intersection, NYPD’s Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey told reporters at a press conference early Friday morning.

Three police units — six cops in total — responded to the corner and when they approached the armed suspect, he “immediately” started shooting at them, Maddrey said.

At least four officers fired back, striking the suspect, who fell to the ground, but managed to continue shooting at the cops, according to Maddrey.

When the gunman finally stopped, he was handcuffed by cops who tried to administer aid, police said. But the suspect died at the scene.

It’s not yet clear how many shots were fired by police or the gunman.

Multiple officers were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.

A gun was recovered at the scene, Maddrey said.

Investigators believe the shooting was motivated by some sort of domestic dispute.

“We believe the two females that initially waved down the sergeant are the victims in the case,” Maddrey said.

Both women were taken to the 60th precinct to be interviewed.

The gunman has not yet been identified, police said.
