The Knoxville Police Department released Monday body camera video showing officers shooting and killing a woman who charged them with a knife on June 20.

Officers responded to the 2000 block of Belle Terra Road after getting reports that a woman with a knife was threatening to hurt herself and other people. Officers Arim Ismail, Tisha Knickerbocker and Riley Lackey responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m.

The woman, later identified by KPD as 49-year-old Shilo Rice, reportedly charged the officers with a knife. KPD said the three officers told her to stop, but she didn’t, prompting all three officers to fire shots at her, killing her.

Since the incident, both the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and KPD’s internal investigations unit - the Office of Professional Standards - have been investigating the shooting to see if the officers did anything wrong. All three have been placed on administrative leave, according to KPD.

The video begins with the officers’ approach. Officers Ismail, Knickerbocker and Lackey move towards the home, and Rice is shown near one of the building’s doorways.

The officers are seen continuing to approach the home in the almost five-minute video when Rice runs towards them. The officers shout, telling her, “Don’t do it,” before firing on her. She collapses, and the officers try to give her aid, as seen in the video.

Officers Ismail, Knickerbocker and Lackey are seen in the video nearing Rice and then applying a tourniquet. While trying to help her after shooting her, they are heard telling her, “It will be alright.”
