The Prosecutor's Office filed charges against the rideshare driver who assaulted a passenger and caused his death after the victim fell to the ground.

Prosecutor Hermenegilda Cubilla charged Cristian Narváez, 37, with intentional homicide and failure to render aid. He is the alleged person responsible for the death of his passenger, Arnaldo Grance, 44, who fell onto the cobblestones after receiving a blow to the face.

The driver was arrested after being involved in an argument that led to the subsequent death of a user of the transportation platform in the Trinidad neighborhood of the capital on the night of Friday, May 1.

According to data gathered by investigators, the accused had a verbal confrontation with his passenger and dealt him several blows to the face, allegedly because the victim demanded his change.

Upon being physically assaulted, the victim fell onto the cobblestones and suffered a blunt-force injury to the head, which ultimately caused his death after losing a large amount of blood, according to forensic confirmation.

In this regard, the results of the autopsy performed at the judicial morgue determined that the cause of death was severe traumatic brain injury, which in turn triggered a cerebral hemorrhage. The Prosecutor's Office has evidence supporting the hypothesis of intentional homicide.

Among the evidence collected is closed-circuit television footage showing that the alleged perpetrator left the scene without providing assistance to the now-deceased. The representative of the Public Ministry requested that the Criminal Guarantee Court apply the precautionary measure of pretrial detention for the accused.
