A 33-year-old man was shot dead by the Military Brigade (BM) after invading a store in Dois Irmãos , in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre , during the night of Thursday (9), assaulting a woman and holding her hostage. His name was not released by the police.

According to BM, the case happened around 7 pm, when the store had just closed. Employees of the commercial establishment, which is on the banks of the BR-116, were still inside the place and called the police because the man would be throwing stones and glass bottles against the building.

Before the police arrived, the man managed to enter the store and, armed with a broken glass bottle, chased the employees.

He managed to reach one of them, subdue her and assault her. At that moment, the police would have arrived and demanded that he move away so that she could be rescued. He held the woman hostage and in front of her. The negotiation would have lasted for 10 minutes until, at the moment when the man would have tried to attack the hostage again, the police shot him with revolvers, and he died at the scene.

The woman was admitted to the Municipal Hospital of Novo Hamburgo. She suffered injuries to her neck, back and side. Her health condition is stable.

According to the delegate Felipe Borba, responsible for the investigation, the man would have ended a relationship with a former employee of the store, which would have motivated the crime.

"He was after her, but she had resigned a few days before, as she was aware of the risk situation. We had asked for a protective measure in her favor, against him, and the request was accepted by the Justice. There was even an arrest warrant. preventive action against the suspect", explains Chief Borba.
