Vancouver police have released body camera video footage of an officer shooting and injuring a man accused of breaking into a home and threatening its resident with a knife last month, the department said in a statement Thursday.

The incident happened May 26 in the 10900 block of Northeast 48th Street, police said. At around 6:30 a.m., a woman reported someone had smashed her windows, police said. She told police she thought it was a man who had tried to break in previously.

Police said when they arrived on the scene, they found the woman in her yard and a man with a knife advancing on her. When he refused police commands to drop the knife and continued moving toward the woman, an officer identified in the video as Alexander Zaferis opened fire.
