The man suspected of decapitating an employee at the Hospital Instituto Doutor José Frota (IJF) , in Fortaleza, this Tuesday morning (23), had already worked at the health unit and entered there using facial recognition, even though he had been fired more than a year ago. The information was passed on by the Secretary of Public Security of Ceará, Samuel Elânio. The suspect fled after the crime, but was arrested on Tuesday afternoon .

According to the Security Secretary, the crime suspect entered the hospital to kill the employee because he was jealous of his wife and the victim, who also works at the unit. The suspect would have gained access to the health unit without difficulty, using facial recognition, and carrying with him a backpack in which he carried the firearm used to kill the victim.

According to Elânio, the victim was hit by four shots, and was later decapitated. Images circulating in groups show the victim in uniform, lying in the cafeteria, with his head at his side. It is also possible to see a knife near the body. Another employee was shot and taken to the operating room.

According to the secretary, the motive for the crime was jealousy.

"The author was jealous of his partner who works at the hospital. He also worked at the hospital until 2022", explained Samuel Elânio. "One of the employees, who was the victim, would be insinuating himself towards the partner of the perpetrator, which is why he had already announced a few times that he was going to carry out an act of this type."

The IJF is one of the main health units in Fortaleza, a reference in care for victims of highly complex traumas, serious vascular injuries and burns. The hospital is managed by the municipal government.

According to witnesses who were at the hospital, several shots were heard and there was a rush inside the unit. In addition to the dead employee, another person was shot and taken to the surgical center. After the crime, the suspect fled. The police managed to find the man on the afternoon of the same day in Aquiraz, a municipality neighboring Fortaleza.

The hospital management reported that two food service providers were victims of aggression in the hospital's cargo reception area. One of the men died at the scene and the other was rescued by emergency teams.
