Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man accused of assaulting a woman as she walked home from a bus stop early Friday morning.According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the woman had finished work and was walking home at approximately 1:30 a.m. when she noticed a man watching and following her. When she reached her apartment in the 200 block of Leslie Street, police said the man approached her from behind.Authorities said the suspect, described as a Black male with locs who was wearing a black tank top and blue shorts, repeatedly punched the woman in the face and body while telling her to remain quiet.Police said the woman fought back and screamed, prompting the suspect to flee the area. The information released by police did not provide details about the extent of the woman’s injuries or indicate whether she was transported for medical treatment.
