Jack the Ripper was an infamous serial killer who brutally murdered five women in the Whitechapel region of London during the 19th century from, known as the canonical five. The murders occurred from August 31st to November 9th during then, with all the murdered women being prostitutes. Various theories have emerged about who Jack the Ripper was, but he was never conclusively identified. While DNA evidence has emerged in the previous decade which linked Aaron Kosminski to the small carpet allegedly found at the scene, this mitochondrial DNA was shared between many individuals which did not prove anything.

Police investigated many suspects, including Mary Pearcey, Aaron Kosminski, Charles Lechmere. It was suspected that the killer possessed advanced anatomical knowledge, judging by the heavy mutilations committed by him. Unlike the rest, his second victim was not that mutilated like others. It was theorized that the killer was interrupted by movements of the cartilage, which made him stop and instead move to another regional street to murder a third victim. From another perspective, many have thought that Charles Lechmere might have been the actual killer. Precisely, the man who was found staring at the second dead victim. It was thought that he had a split second to decide after hearing a witness walk near him, which made him act like a witness by staring at the body. Along with this, the fifth victim suffered the worst mutilation. The murder occurred inside a property, and the door was locked afterwards. During that haunting period, police received numerous letters which claimed to be Jack the Ripper. Most of the letters were dismissed as hoaxes, with many of them having likely originated from journalists who were seeking attention. However, only one letter stood out from the rest which was thought to have come from the actual killer. It read:

“From hell

Mr Lusk,
Sor
I send you half the Kidne I took from one women prasarved it for you tother piece I fried and ate it was very nise. I may send you the bloody knif that took it out if you only wate a whil longer
signed

Catch me when you can Mishter Lusk”

Based on the information, the identity of the killer will likely remain a mystery. Long time has already passed before DNA forensics was created, making it difficult to find the truth.
