Videos will get rejected, so shut up.A brutal femicide shocked the district of La Victoria, in Lima, this weekend (March 6-8). José Alejandro Romero Durán, 29, was arrested by the Peruvian National Police after murdering and dismembering his partner, Beatriz Carolina Huampiri Borda, 30—the mother of his two children. The crime took place in the 2000 block of Bausate y Meza Avenue. Neighbors alerted the police after detecting nauseating odors emanating from the property. Upon forcing entry into the third-floor apartment, officers discovered the victim's remains—already dismembered—inside the bathroom.Throughout the entire time the crime was unfolding, the couple's two children—aged 4 and 7—remained in an adjoining room watching television, unaware that their father was butchering their mother's body in the next room. After killing and dismembering his partner, Romero Durán purchased a meat grinder with the intention of completely disposing of the victim's remains and ensuring the body would never be found. He was apprehended in the act less than 24 hours later, before he could carry out his plan.Police are also investigating the potential involvement of accomplices who may have assisted in the crime.Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple's relationship was marked by episodes of violence. In 2022, Romero Durán had even filed a police report against the victim, accusing her of assault with a bladed weapon. The suspect has remained silent. The two children have been placed in the care of the Peruvian Ministry of Women for psychological support and custody determination. The case occurred on the eve of International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8. Data from the Peruvian Ministry of Women indicate that, in 2025, 133 femicides and 270 attempted femicides were recorded in the country, in addition to more than 176,000 cases of violence against women.
