Trading cards are an institution that dates back over a century. In addition to making baseball cards, companies like Topps and Fleer made cards for other sports including football and hockey. They also got into the business of making non-sports cards. Usually, these cards were produced to coincide with the success of popular entertainment – for example, Kiss cards were the staple of a generation and you were nobody unless you had some Star Wars cards to trade on the playground. Card companies also produced card series like the ever-popular Wacky Packages which were parody cards of product labels.
